A sports facility built to withstand coastal conditions

In response to growing demand for accessible sport, the municipality of Le Crotoy commissioned the construction of two indoor padel courts near the French coastline.

The proximity to the sea presented additional challenges: salt, wind and changing weather conditions could all impact building quality over time. To ensure durability and ease of use, the municipality opted for a modular structure designed specifically for coastal environments.

  • Size: 674 m²

  • Dimensions: 24 × 27 m (7 m ridge height)

  • Use: Two indoor padel courts

Technical highlights: anodised aluminium frame, membrane roof (702S2), wind and rain protection, insulated steel cladding

What this meant for the municipality

Designed for public use in demanding environments

This project shows how municipalities can deliver modern sports facilities, even in technically challenging locations.

The use of corrosion-resistant materials and modular building methods ensured a safe, regulation-compliant facility that could be realised quickly and responsibly.

With minimal maintenance required and a long technical lifespan, the structure also supports sustainable public investment — aligned with long-term spatial planning.

A facility that strengthens local access to sport

The new courts are open for clubs, schools and recreational users. They provide residents with year-round access to an emerging sport, in a safe and protected setting — even just metres from the sea.
