Losberger De Boer Expands the Brand-New Athletics Stadium in Budapest

Behind the Scenes of a World Championship

During the Athletics World Championships 2023, Losberger De Boer enhanced the Nemzeti Atlétikai Központ stadium with high-performance space solutions, creating nearly 6,000m² of additional space for security, catering, sponsors, and VIPs.

More Than 300,000 Tickets Sold

For Hungary's first Athletics World Championships, a total of 2,000 athletes from over 200 countries traveled to the capital on the Danube. The newly built National Athletics Centre ("Nemzeti Atlétikai Központ") accommodated about 35,000 spectators during the competitions. However, with over 300,000 tickets sold, there was a need for additional space to alleviate the event center in the south of Budapest.

Fast Solution – Made in Germany

A month before the scheduled handover, our trained assembly teams began constructing the temporary space solutions. Shortly thereafter, several Maxiflex structures totaling a record-breaking area of 3,725m² could be admired from the banks of the Danube. These served as backstage tents for security, catering, and the volunteers' program during the event. The centerpiece of hospitality was a combination of Palas tents, cleverly combined to form a generous VIP area (2,100m²).

Customized Down to the Last Detail

Part of the special solutions realized was the complete integration of a lighting and air conditioning concept. Thanks to industry-leading technology, Losberger De Boer's project managers ensured during the planning phase that a comfortable atmosphere prevailed in the temporary structures, completely independent of external conditions. Moreover, for an event of this magnitude, it was crucial to implement a reliable security concept. Losberger De Boer was the right partner for this requirement too, with years of experience in planning and executing major events, using certified materials, and specially trained assembly teams that guarantee a safe environment for every installation.

Under the Stars of Budapest

A highlight of the event was the unique celebration of Hungary's national holiday on August 20th. There, guests had the chance to be part of one of Europe's largest fireworks displays, experiencing firsthand how sport and culture intertwine. A rare opportunity and an experience that will surely remain in many memories for a long time.

From the setup on the banks of the Danube to the final sprint on the track, the Athletics World Championships were a resounding success.
