Tennis canopy enables safe year-round play in SEVESO zone in France
In the French city of Feyzin, two semi-covered tennis courts were installed in a SEVESO zone using a modular canopy. A safe, fast and regulation-compliant solution for public sports infrastructure.
A safe and approved solution for community sports
In Feyzin, a municipality near Lyon, the local council aimed to expand access to sport by adding two covered tennis courts. The demand came from within the community, and the goal was clear: enable residents to play year-round, regardless of weather.
However, the available plot for development was located in a SEVESO zone—a high-risk industrial area with strict safety and construction regulations. A traditional indoor sports hall was not permitted. This raised a familiar challenge for public authorities: how to meet community needs within regulatory and financial limits, without delay.
A regulation-compliant canopy built for public use
To meet both community needs and legal constraints, Losberger De Boer delivered a semi-covered Prosport canopy—a structure designed for use in restricted or sensitive zones.
Covering 1,296 m², the canopy houses two full-sized tennis courts. It provides protection from sun and rain, while its open side façades ensure natural airflow — fully aligned with SEVESO zone building regulations.
Key specifications:
-
Hybrid frame made of anodised aluminium and timber posts
-
Flat tensioned roof membrane (Serge Ferrari 702S2) with certified technical approval
-
Open façades up to 3 metres high, with micro-perforated PVC fabric above
-
Installed in 2024, with minimal site disruption
Built for public responsibility
What this meant for the municipality
This solution enabled the city of Feyzin to move forward with confidence. The canopy structure ensured compliance, reduced complexity, and offered full control over timeline and budget — all essential when working under public responsibility. By choosing a modular approach, the municipality gained a safe, futureproof sports facility without the delays or complications of conventional construction.
A meaningful space for the community
Beyond regulation and delivery, the result is a space that matters. The courts now offer residents a place to stay active, play together and connect — regardless of season or background. For families in Feyzin, it’s a new part of daily life: open, accessible and centred on well-being.
