Stories – Brought to Life is a new immersive experience from FRAMELESS, inspired by the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection. The experience was created by FRAMELESS Creative, presenting a bold new take on the traditional art gallery.
Surrounded by large-scale visuals, visitors step into a world where stories come alive, presented through cutting-edge technology and Hollywood-style visual effects for powerful storytelling.
Featured stories include Amy Winehouse, Queen Elizabeth II, Malala Yousafzai, Audrey Hepburn, Grayson Perry, William Shakespeare and many others.
The Challenge
When FRAMELESS wanted to develop this type of experience, the right space and environment were essential to make the experience work in terms of deployment of innovative technology and to deliver the scale, sound and layout required.
They needed the right ceiling height for large-scale projections, full acoustic control to manage sound bleed between rooms, and underfloor heating and cooling systems to maintain a comfortable environment for visitors.
Each part of the layout was designed to support the visitor journey, moving seamlessly from calm, reflective spaces to bold, cinematic moments. And it all had to be delivered in the middle of MediaCity, a busy, high-traffic site with its own logistical pressures.
The Solution
Our team delivered a total of 1650 m2 of immersive venue space, transforming Media City’s central courtyard into a fully immersive experience.
What did we create?
Venue 1: Reception, Stories Gallery, Reflection Gallery, and Gift Shop - This structure guided visitors through the beginning and end of the experience, from arrival and introduction to the sitters, to providing a space for quiet reflection, and concluding with a final stop at the gift shop.

Venue 2: Immersive Gallery - The centrepiece of the experience, with 900 m² of moving visuals, sound and storytelling that completely surrounds the visitor.

Size: 30 x 30 x 6 m
The stories of the sitters unfold across huge digital canvases, using custom-designed frames, striking visuals, and cinematic sound to create a new kind of gallery experience.
The experience is a truly bold reimagining of the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection, powered by state-of-the-art creative technology.
The outcome - Setting a new standard for immersive touring exhibitions.
